AN ACT
Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled
"An act relating to counties of the first, second class A,
third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes;
amending, revising, consolidating and changing the laws
relating thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by
counties, including authorizing imposition of an excise tax
on the rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first
class; and providing for regional renaissance initiatives,"
in special powers and duties of counties, providing for
county humane officers.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Article XIX of the act of August 9, 1955
(P.L.323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by
adding a subdivision to read:
(z.6) Other Powers and Duties
Section 1999n. County Humane Officers.--The county
commissioners may employ a county humane officer who shall be
authorized to enforce dog control as defined in the act of
December 7, 1982 (P.L.784, No.225), known as the "Dog Law," and
animal cruelty laws of this Commonwealth as contained in 18

Pa.C.S. Ch. 55 Subch. B (relating to cruelty to animals). In
order to be eligible for employment as a county humane officer,
an individual must meet the training requirements contained in
22 Pa.C.S. ยงยง 3712 (relating to training program) and 3713
(relating to continuing education program).
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
