WHAT IS URC-PA?

The URC-PA poster Conference is an educational event allowing the undergraduate students enrolled in Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities to showcase their research talents to the Commonwealth’s key decision-makers. All fields of research are encouraged.  As a participant, you will spend the day in the Pennsylvania Capitol Building, share experiences and ideas with your counterparts from other schools, and enlighten your state legislators on the topics that are important to you and our society. When possible, a visit to either the Senate or House Chamber is part of the day’s events.

WHEN IS THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The date of the 16th Annual URC - PA will be announced in December of 2017

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The mission of the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol of Pennsylvania involves students engaging members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate. Students are encouraged to contact their State Representative and Senator to arrange a meeting to discuss their research. Click here for additional information.

The mission of the event remains focused on the interaction with legislators, we are adding a new element in 2017. For the first time, participants will have the option of being reviewed by a panel of judges to compete for special awards. You will have the option to participate in the judging portion of the event. Additional information regarding the judging criteria is available here. We look forward to adding this new dimension to the event, which stems from the request of past participants.

WHERE IS THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The event is held in the East Wing Rotunda located in the Capitol Complex, Harrisburg.

Please note: Although the Capitol is a public building, all visitors must pass through the security inspection including metal detectors. All bags and packages will be x-rayed, and are subject to hand inspection. Personal items may be hand-inspected. Please allow extra time for the security screening.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN URC-PA?

An email will be sent to academic officers/advisors of all colleges and universities within the Commonwealth announcing the date of the event and the information for registration. Since the selection process may vary at each school, interested students should check with their institution to determine if there is an internal process for participation.  The URC-PA registration process is outlined below:

FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS TO REGISTER:

STEP #1  A deadline is set for the declaration of intent to participate.  Together with their advisor, interested students must indicate their intention to participate by registering in advance of submitting their abstract. To register, please send an email to REG4URCPA@pasen.gov. The email MUST include your name and email address, your research advisor’s name and email address in addition to your school, and abstract topic.

STEP #2 To submit your abstract, you must complete the Abstract Submission Form no later than the registration deadline. Click here to complete the form.

The 2018 ABSTRACT DEADLINE will be announced here.

WHAT MY ADVISOR NEEDS TO KNOW:

Advisors need to know these important tips.

The URC-PA Mission

The purpose of the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol is to bring together college students, faculty, and Pennsylvania legislators to share the experiences of students engaged in research or scholarship at their colleges and universities. To that end, URC - PA provides an opportunity for students to present posters about their work at the State Capitol, and for students and their faculty mentors to meet with legislators and their staffs.
