| Subject: | Health Care Information Technology Awareness Day - May 8th |
| I will soon be introducing a resolution recognizing May 8th as Pennsylvania Health Care Information Technology Awareness Day. The United States spends more than $2.6 trillion on health care a year or 17.6% of G.D.P. yet some of that spending is unnecessary and spent on clinical and administrative waste, theft and excess costs. Much has been done in Pennsylvania to address this issue. Act 121 of 2012, the Pennsylvania eHealth Information Technology Act, established the Pennsylvania eHealth Partnership Authority and the means for creating a health information exchange in Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania's hospitals and health systems are outpacing hospitals nationally in their adoption and use of clinical information technology and information management systems. The intent of this resolution is to continue promoting better health care through broader adoption of advanced health care information technology and management systems. This resolution is based on SR 260 of 2010, which was sponsored by Folmer, Alloway, Argall, Baker, Boscola, Browne, Brubaker, Costa, Dinniman, Erickson, Farnese, Ferlo, Fontana, Greenleaf, O’Pake, Orie, Pileggi, Pippy, Rafferty, Tartaglione, Washington, and M. White. Please join me in cosponsoring Health Care Information Technology Awareness Day. |
