Subject: Importing Distributor Warehouse Employee Flexibility

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to address a workforce shortage amongst our importing distributors across the Commonwealth.

Coming out of the pandemic, we have seen labor shortages across the entire service economy and the logistics/distribution industry is no exception to that. Under current law, warehouse employees are required to be 18 years old. These employees are dealing with palettes and large inventory, not single units. They do not have access to consume alcohol and the existing penalties for underage consumption are strict for licensees.

My bill will reduce the minimum age for warehouse employees to 16 years old, providing an opportunity for high paying jobs for students willing to work. This expanded opportunity will also give students an opportunity to learn supply chain and logistics management prior to making a career choice or pursuing higher education.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to expand our workforce and support Pennsylvania licensees.
