MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 16, 2024 09:55 AM
From: Representative Patrick J. Harkins
To: All House members
Subject: American Assocation of Dental Boards Dental & Dental Hygiene Compact Legislation

In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that would authorize the Commonwealth to join the American Association of Dental Boards Dental & Dental Hygiene Compact.

Between 2001 and 2021, the number of dentists per capita has decreased by 7% in the Commonwealth. The need for dental care in the state is a real concern, and this legislation will help address the issue by allowing dentists who have compact privilege to apply to practice in our state.

The goal of this compact is to increase access to dental care while keeping a high standard for individuals who wish to be licensed in the commonwealth. This compact ensures that the State Board of Dentistry will continue to issue licenses and privileges, while also keeping the high standards of practice that Pennsylvania currently has.

Dentists and Dental Hygienists who are in good standing and would like to relocate to Pennsylvania should be able to do so in an efficient manner. Pennsylvania residents deserve quality care from these qualified providers.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
