Subject: Requiring Car Insurance Providers Report a New Insurance Policy to PennDOT

When a driver cancels their motor vehicle insurance policy, the insurer is obligated to report the cancellation to PennDOT. However, there is no requirement for an insurer to notify PennDOT when a driver acquires a new insurance policy. This creates a gap in the reporting process, potentially causing police scanners to register a newly insured driver as uninsured, as they were never notified of the new insurance policy.

Drivers should not have to worry about getting pulled over for having an insurance policy that was never reported. That is why I plan to introduce legislation that would require motor vehicle insurers notify PennDOT when a new insurance policy is issued, ensuring that PennDOT has up-to-date information on which vehicles have valid insurance coverage. This would prevent drivers from receiving unnecessary tickets, saving Pennsylvanians money and helping PennDOT and the police identify vehicles that are actually uninsured.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation to save Pennsylvanians money and prevent unnecessary traffic stops.
