A RESOLUTION
Designating October 17, 2023, as "Kappa Alpha Psi Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi, the second-oldest existing
collegiate historically Black Greek Letter Fraternity
incorporated as a national body, has been dedicated to promoting
the spiritual, social, intellectual and moral welfare of its
members since its inception in January 1911 at Indiana
University in Bloomington, Indiana; and
WHEREAS, Originally chartered and incorporated in Indiana as
Kappa Alpha Nu on May 1, 1911, the fraternity later became known
as Kappa Alpha Psi in April 1915, and its Alpha Chapter remains
on Indiana University's campus today; and
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi's founding motto, "Achievement in
Every Field of Human Endeavor," reflects its commitment to
encouraging excellence in all areas of life; and
WHEREAS, With more than 125,000 members and 700 undergraduate
and alumni chapters across the United States, as well as
international chapters in Nigeria, South Africa, the West

Indies, the United Kingdom, Germany, Korea and Japan, Kappa
Alpha Psi has consistently supported the academic pursuits and
aspirations of its members while upholding principles of
inclusion; and
WHEREAS, The city of Philadelphia proudly serves as the
location of Kappa Alpha Psi's international headquarters, and
the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation, a nonprofit organization,
advances the fraternity's philanthropic goals; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
17, 2023, as "Kappa Alpha Psi Day" in Pennsylvania, recognizing
the impressive record of service Kappa Alpha Psi has provided in
this Commonwealth and beyond; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend Kappa
Alpha Psi for its global impact on events affecting local
communities and places around the world as its chapters actively
engage in community outreach activities, scholarship programs
for young students and mentorship programs.
