A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of November 2023 as "Infant Safe Sleep
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The children of Pennsylvania are our most important
resource and the very foundation of the future of our
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of infants in the United States die each
year in preventable tragedies because they are placed in unsafe
sleeping environments; and
WHEREAS, In April 1992, the American Academy of Pediatrics
Task Force on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome recommended that
infants be placed on their backs to sleep; and
WHEREAS, The safest sleeping environment for babies is alone
on their backs in an empty crib with a tightly fitted sheet and
sufficient sleepwear; and
WHEREAS, The National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development's Internet website provides parents, grandparents,
relatives and day-care providers access to resources containing

information about providing babies with safe sleep environments;
and
WHEREAS, The month of November is an opportunity to inform or
remind all caregivers to check infant sleep environments to help
prevent needless tragedies; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of November 2023 as "Infant Safe Sleep Month" in
Pennsylvania.
