A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of January 28 through February 3, 2024, as
"Catholic Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since 1974, "Catholic Schools Week" is a nationally
recognized annual celebration of Catholic education in the
United States beginning on the last Sunday of January; and
WHEREAS, For its 50th year, the theme of "Catholic Schools
Week" is "Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community"; and
WHEREAS, This celebration provides schools with an
opportunity to demonstrate the value that Catholic education can
provide to young people, to demonstrate the contributions of
Catholic education to the church and local community and to
showcase their students' success in academics, leadership,
volunteerism, the arts and athletics; and
WHEREAS, Catholic schools throughout the nation celebrate the
week with Masses and open houses and by hosting activities and
events for students, families, parishioners and community
members; and

WHEREAS, School events often include:
(1) recognition of first responders, military personnel,
community leaders, bus drivers, teachers and volunteers;
(2) lunches with parents or grandparents;
(3) volunteer efforts at local food banks; and
(4) assemblies or games to promote school spirit;
and
WHEREAS, Catholic schools provide a balanced academic
curriculum that combines Catholic faith, culture and life while
instilling in students the value of service to others in order
to prepare students to be productive citizens and future
leaders; and
WHEREAS, With a national high school graduation rate of 99%,
Catholic schools pride themselves on setting high standards for
student achievement and providing the help that students need to
succeed academically; and
WHEREAS, Through the administration of the Allentown,
Altoona-Johnstown, Erie, Greensburg, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and
Scranton Dioceses and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, this
Commonwealth is home to approximately 365 Catholic schools,
including early childhood education centers and preschools,
elementary schools, junior high schools, high schools and
special education schools; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of January 28 through February 3, 2024, as "Catholic
Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.
