Subject: | DESIGNATING OCTOBER AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH IN PA |
We will be introducing a resolution recognizing the month of October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Pennsylvania”. More prevalent than most realize, one in four women and one in seven men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. According to the PA Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than 10 million people are abused each year in the U.S. Intimate partner violence burdens the PA economy with $156 billion over a lifetime. Anyone can become a victim of domestic violence. As a legislative body it is imperative that we lend our voices to raise awareness of domestic violence in support of Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth, including the 112 Pennsylvanians who died from domestic violence incidents in 2022. By doing so we can be part of the national conversation about domestic violence and contribute to changing the narrative on this overshadowed, but important topic. Please consider co-sponsoring this resolution. |
