2023 URC-PA PARTICIPANTS

WHAT IS URC-PA?

The URC-PA poster Conference is an educational event allowing undergraduate students enrolled in Pennsylvania's colleges and universities to showcase their research talents to the Commonwealth's key decision-makers. All fields of research are encouraged. Participants will spend the day in the Pennsylvania Capitol Building, share experiences and ideas with their counterparts from other schools, and enlighten state legislators on the topics that are important to our society.

WHEN IS THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The date of the Annual URC-PA is Tuesday, March 19, 2024.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The mission of Undergraduate Research at the Capitol of Pennsylvania involves students engaging members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate. Students are encouraged to contact their state representative and senator to arrange a meeting to discuss their research while at the Capitol. Click here for additional information.

With both the Senate of Pennsylvania and the House of Representatives in session the day of the event, the building will be buzzing with excitement and will give presenters the perfect opportunity to reach a large audience.

WHERE IS THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The event is held in the East Wing Rotunda located in the Capitol Complex, Harrisburg.

Please note: Although the Capitol is a public building, all visitors must pass through the security inspection including metal detectors. All bags and packages will be x-rayed and are subject to hand inspection. Personal items may be hand-inspected. Please allow extra time for the security screening.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN URC-PA?

An email will be sent to academic officers/advisors of all colleges and universities within the Commonwealth announcing the date of the event and the information for registration and deadlines. Since the selection process may vary at each school, interested students should check with their institution to determine if there is an internal process for participation.
The URC-PA registration process is outlined below:

FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS TO REGISTER:

STEP ONE: Together with their advisor, interested students must indicate their intention to participate by registering in advance of submitting their abstract. To register, please send an email to REG4URCPA@pasen.gov. The email MUST include your name and email address, your research advisor's name and email address in addition to your school and abstract topic. The intent email is due no later than close of business Friday, February 16, 2024.

STEP TWO: To submit your abstract, you must complete the Abstract Submission Form no later than the registration deadline, which is Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

Due to program production deadlines, abstracts must be submitted by the deadline in order to be included within the event program.

STEP THREE: Prepare the poster highlighting the research for display at the Capitol. Remember to bring your poster and a display easel for public viewing. For complete poster guidelines, click here.

The URC-PA Mission

The purpose of Undergraduate Research at the Capitol - Pennsylvania is to bring together college students, faculty, and Pennsylvania legislators to share the experiences of students engaged in research or scholarship at their colleges and universities. To that end, URC - PA provides an opportunity for students to present posters about their work at the State Capitol, and for students and their faculty mentors to meet with legislators and their staffs.
