WHAT IS URC-PA?

The URC-PA poster Conference is an educational event allowing the undergraduate students enrolled in Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities to showcase their research talents to the Commonwealth’s key decision-makers. All fields of research are encouraged.  As a participant, you will spend the day in the Pennsylvania Capitol Building, share experiences and ideas with your counterparts from other schools, and enlighten your state legislators on the topics that are important to you and our society. When possible, a visit to either the Senate or House Chamber is part of the day’s events.

WHEN IS THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The 12th URC - PA will take place March 11, 2014.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The Tentative Agenda for March 11, 2014 is available. Click here to view.  The Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that Dr. Graham F. Hatfull, Eberly Family Professor of Biotechnology, University of Pittsburgh, HHMI Professor, Phages and tuberculosis, has graciously accepted the offer to provide the keynote address.

WHERE IS THE URC-PA POSTER CONFERENCE?

The event is held in the East Wing Rotunda located in the Capitol Complex, Harrisburg. The registration desk is located in the East Wing Rotunda, opposite the Capitol Shop.

Please note: Although the Capitol is a public building, all visitors must pass through the security inspection including metal detectors. All bags and packages will be x-rayed, and are subject to hand inspection. Personal items may be hand-inspected. Please allow extra time for the security screening.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN URC-PA?

In January of 2014, an email will be sent to academic officers/advisors of all colleges and universities within the Commonwealth announcing the date of the event and the information for registration. Since the selection process may vary at each school, interested students should check with their institution to determine if there is an internal process for participation.  The URC-PA registration process is outlined below:

FOLLOW THESE EASY STEPS TO REGISTER:

STEP #1 January 31, 2014 is the date that students, together with their advisor, must indicate their intention to participate by registering in advance of submitting their abstract. To register, please send an email to REG4URCPA@pasen.gov. The email MUST include your name and email address, your research advisor’s name and email address in addition to your school, and abstract topic.

STEP #2 Submit an abstract, via email at REG4URCPA@pasen.gov no later than the registration deadline. For complete abstract guidelines and details, click here.

The 2014 ABSTRACT DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 18, 2014

STEP #3 Prepare the poster highlighting the research for display at the Capitol. Remember to bring your poster and a display easel for public viewing. For complete poster guidelines, click here.

WHAT MY ADVISOR NEEDS TO KNOW:

Advisors need to know these important tips.

The URC-PA Mission

The purpose of the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol is to bring together college students, faculty, and Pennsylvania legislators to share the experiences of students engaged in research or scholarship at their colleges and universities. To that end, URC - PA provides an opportunity for students to present posters about their work at the State Capitol, and for students and their faculty mentors to meet with legislators and their staffs.
